Failure to thrive: an ambulatory approach

Article Abstract:

Failure to thrive (FTT) is associated with lack of proper growth in infants or young children and requires early and often repeated intervention concerning nutritional, psychological, and social development of the child. FTT is either caused by organic or nonorganic factors. Organic causes relate to disease or organ failure and nonorganic causes are generally related to psychosocial or environmental factors such as neglect or abuse.

Article Abstract:

The health of children from poor families in the UK is at risk. They cannot afford to eat healthy food. They eat fatty, sugary food which is less expensive. Poor families without their own transport cannot travel to supermarkets where food is less expensive, nor can they easily transport disabled children to hospital outpatient departments. There are more accidents within poor families, and their mental health is also more fragile.
