Canes, walkers and crutches: don't let choosing one throw you off balance

Article Abstract:

Walking aid equipment must be the right size and fit if they are to be used properly. A cane's length is critical for comfortable walking. The top of the cane should reach the crease in the wrist. The same applies for walkers. Crutches must have a length that allows the arms to bend 15-20 degrees at the elbows. Contoured handles are more comfortable than rounded ones. The tips of these walking aids should be flat and soft rubber or plastic with good traction that hold the ground well.
