The importance of parametric approaches in the analysis of cell behavior

Article Abstract:

Parametric approaches reveal cell behavioral phenomena to be investigated by more analytical biotechnological procedures. Systematic variation of the specific signal under study and the background parameters are necessary to carry out proper experimental studies. Laminin is the prototypical first-order signal in the cells of neural hybrid line NG108-15. There is no cell response in the absence of laminin, while graded response increases with a rise in the signal strength. Polymers, such as polylysine, are second-order signals that modulate the effects of the first-order signals.

Sickle cell disease

Article Abstract:

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is group of inherited disorders which affect haemoglobin in red blood cells. The group includes sickle cell anaemia and sickle beta thalassaemia. Sickle haemoglobin causes the red blood cell to harden and change shape. Cell rigidity can lead to vaso-occlusion which is the most common cause of hospital admission in people with SCD. Patients present with severe pain and nursing care mainly comprises pain management. Drug therapies include pethidine injections and diamorphine, which can be patient-controlled.

Disciplined approaches

Article Abstract:

Knowledge of employment legislation will assist nurse managers in personnel matters. Most common staff problems requiring discipline are lateness, absence or unsatisfactory performance of duties. Nurse managers should establish performance standards and ensure staff awareness of them. They should avoid discriminatory application of the rules. Disciplinary action should follow a formal procedure.
