Cardiovascular effects of 6 months of hormone replacement therapy versus placebo: differences associated with years since menopause

Article Abstract:

A study evaluates cardiovascular and neuroendocrine effects of HRT versus placebo in postmenopausal women grouped according to time since menopause, based in response to post-Woman's health initiative dialog regarding invidualised hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The result indicates that sympathetic tones are evident in some HRT users with diminishing benefit after the initial postmenopausal years.

Obesity: physiologic changes and challenges during laparoscopy

Article Abstract:

A study is designed to describe the review of the available literature on obesity, the physiologic changes that occur in obese patients and the impact of these changes on laparoscopy outcomes. It is demonstrated that obese patients who undergo laparoscopy have shorter hospital stays, less postoperative pain and fewer wound injections when compared with obese patients who undergo laparotomy.

Transdermal estrogen reduces vascular resistance and serum cholesterol in postmenopausal women

Article Abstract:

Hormone therapy delivered in the form of a skin patch lowers blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels in postmenopausal women just as oral hormone therapy does, according to a study of 33 women. This means that the hormone patch may also reduce a woman's risk of heart disease.
