Case 27-2004: A 79-year-old woman with disturbances in gait, cognition, and autonomic function

Article Abstract:

The case of a 79-year-old woman is evaluated in a neurology clinic because of difficulty walking and cognitive change. The diagnosis and treatment of the disease is presented. The issue of advance directives with regard to life-sustaining treatment with the patient after the diagnosis of multiple-system atrophy is discussed.

Case 21-2003: A 72-year-old man with repetitive strokes in the posterior circulation

Article Abstract:

A 72-year-old man who began having recurring small strokes was diagnosed with giant-cell arteritis. This is an inflammation of medium and large arteries, which in his case involved the arteries that supply blood to the brain. He was treated with corticosteroid drugs, but his condition deteriorated and he died.

Case 27-2005: An 80-year-old man with fatigue, unsteady gait, and confusion

Article Abstract:

A case study is presented of an 80-year-old man who suffered from exhaustion, unstable gait, confusion and insomnia, and died on the 23rd day in hospital. A discussion on differential diagnosis is held and ultimately a clinical verdict of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is established.
