Changing perceptions

Article Abstract:

Consumer Satisfaction with Primary Care, 1992, a study conducted in the South East Thames Region, UK, in September 1991, based on a postal questionnaire sent to 2,783 people, indicates that patient satisfaction with regard to family doctors is related to a doctor's skill, understanding manner, accessibility, and the level of preventive care offered. The study was conducted following the implementation of Promoting Better Health, the government primary health care white paper, to find out if the change in the contract for family doctors had led to improved patient perception of primary care. The study refers to patients' attitudes towards the role of the practice nurse as well as satisfaction with services offered at the practice by the family doctor.

Pressure-sore awareness in hospital

Article Abstract:

A survey of pressure-sore awareness in a university teaching hospital revealed a lack of interest on the subject among medical staff. The costs of treating pressure sores were estimated at less than 100 pounds sterling by 3% of those questioned; between 1000 and 10,000 pounds by 39%; and over 10,000 pounds by 6%. The cost of treating a grade 4 5 pressure sore can actually rise to 26,000 pounds sterling.
