Chemotherapy use in the last 6 months of life among Medicare patients with cancer

Article Abstract:

About one-fourth of all cancer patients 65 years old and older receive chemotherapy in the last 6 months of life, according to Medicare statistics. Many received chemotherapy even though it probably wouldn't help them because they had a type of cancer that does not respond to chemotherapy. This may not be a good use of resources.
