Chief outlines group organization's future direction

Article Abstract:

The Medical Group Management Assn (MGMA) signed an alliance with the American Medical Assn (AMA) in spring 1995 as part of its strategic plan to improve health care in general and community health in particular. Under the agreement the two organizations will cooperate in research and database development, member services, membership marketing, consulting services, advocacy, and other areas. Group practice is increasingly important for AMA members who are looking for a more efficient delivery structure.

Lessons for leaders - what makes associations succeed

Article Abstract:

Professional associations of physicians and other medical workers will increasingly consolidate with one another as the health care industry itself undergoes consolidation. The key to success for the Medical Group Management Association and other organizations is strong service to members, which depends on dedicated association leaders and direct communication with members to determine their wants and needs. Strong associations ultimately will benefit the public health.

A progress report: AMA & MGMA alliance

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn (AMA) and the Medical Group Management Assn (MGMA), in the first year of their alliance, have cooperated in the areas of political advocacy, data collection, and education. Advocacy has been the primary focus of the groups' joint efforts. AMA and MGMA staff members regularly meet to coordinate their lobbying efforts. During the Medicare debates, for example, the groups support each other.
