Child protection: the nurse's role: the fate of Victoria Climbie offers lessons for all health professionals, regardless of their area of practice

Article Abstract:

The death of Victoria Climbie from continual abuse by her caretakers led to an inquiry into reporting by British health care officials who saw earlier injuries and did not report possible child abuse. Nurses and other health care workers need to not only report possible abuse, but should also carefully record any suspicions into the patient record to trigger suspicions about future injuries.

Nurses risk breaking rules on relationships

Article Abstract:

A survey reveals that even though the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence has warned nurses against engaging in relationships with patients, they still continue to do so. The nurses do not realize the outcome of their relationships such as regulatory sanctions, dismissal.

Are relationships with patients always out of bounds?

The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence has released guidelines warning against relationships among patients and their carers. However, the issue of relationships of healthcare professionals with former patients is debatable.
