NR4A orphan nuclear receptors are transcriptional regulators of hepatic glucose metabolism

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that members of the NR4A family of ligand-independent orphan nuclear receptors are downstream mediators of cAMP action in the hormonal control of gluconeogenesis. Expression of an inhibitory mutant Nur77 receptor was found to antagonize gluconeogenic gene expression and lower blood glucose levels in dbl db mice, and these results outline a previously unrecognized role for orphan nuclear receptors in the transcriptional control of glucose homeostasis.

Reciprocal regulation of inflammation and lipid metabolism by liver X receptors

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that the liver X receptors are lipid-dependent regulators of gene expression during inflammation and also link lipid metabolism and immune functions in macrophages. In vivo and in vitro models of the regulation of inflammation and lipid metabolism by the liver X receptors are presented.

Prevention of cholesterol gallstone disease by FXR agonist in a mouse model

Article Abstract:

The cholesterol gallstone phenotype in mice lacking the bile acid receptor, farnesoid X receptor (FXR) is described. The results indicate that FXR is promising therapeutic target for treating or preventing cholesterol gallstone disease.
