Chronic stress promotes tumor growth and angiogenesis in a mouse model of ovarian carcinoma

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that chronic behavioral stress results in higher levels of tissue catecholamines, greater tumor burden and more invasive growth of ovarian carcinoma cells in an orthotopic mouse model. Pharmacological and genetic manipulations identify [beta]-adrenergic signaling as a central mediator of stress effects in the model of stress used and does not rule out possibility of other neuroendocrine signaling pathways, which might modulate tumor cell biology under other circumstances.

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase III study of the safety of alvimopan in patients who undergo simple total abdominal hysterectomy

Article Abstract:

The safety and efficacy of alvimopan, a novel peripherally acting mu-opioid receptor antagonist, in patients who undergo simple total abdominal hysterectomy are investigated. Alvimopan has a safety profile that is similar to that of placebo and it has provided an improved lower gastrointestinal recovery in women who undergo simple total abdominal hysterectomy.

Usefulness of preoperative lymphoscintigraphy in patients who undergo radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy for cervical cancer

Article Abstract:

The value of preoperative lymphoscintigraphy before intraoperative lymphatic mapping for sentinel lymph node identification during radical hysterectomy is assessed. It is concluded that preoperative lymphoscintigraphy adds little value over intraoperative lymphatic mapping for sentinel lymph node identification during radical hysterectomy.
