Scientists probe role of genes, environment in Parkinson disease

Article Abstract:

The vast majority of Parkinson disease is not inherited in a simple way but is a complex disease and probably has many different factors that influence risk, including genes that interplay with environmental factors. It is suggested that patients with the Park-2 gene variant might be more vulnerable to environmental factors, where microglia activation plays an important role in the disorder, and this mechanism might be a target for prevention strategies or therapeutics.

Studies probe diet's role in eye disease

Article Abstract:

New research findings reveal that eating fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids and taking antioxidant supplements might help prevent the progression of age-related macular degeneration. Omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids that are obtained through dietary sources are essential for both the structure of the eye and signaling pathways.
