Clinical supervision in a challenging behaviour unit

Article Abstract:

The clinical supervision was examined if it was of good quality, was suitable for different specialist environments and if it affected motivation, skills, confidence and stress levels as part of an ongoing service development programme at St Andrew's Hospital, Northampton. The results show that senior staff benefits more than their junior staff, but it also shows a number of discrepancies regarding who receives supervision, the time frame they receive it in and why so many nurses feel the supervision is not helping them work more effectively.

Understanding the value of qualitative research in nursing

Article Abstract:

Qualitative research methods in healthcare are becoming increasingly popular, but there are issues about the quality of data produced and how to make improvements. Although there are problems concerned with the use of language, terminology and definitions, the themes and characteristics that emerge from qualitative research are more important, and some methods to improve rigor in qualitative research are discussed.

Will trust self-assess honestly?

Article Abstract:

The UK Healthcare Commission has for the first time asked the trusts to assess themselves under the new Annual Health check that would replace the star-rating system. The Commission thinks that the new self-assessment system would provide a better measure of performance than the old system, which was widely criticized for demoralizing staff in zero and one-star trusts.
