Comparison of glyburide and insulin for the management of gestational diabetes in a large managed care organization

Article Abstract:

The use of glyburide with insulin for the treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) unresponsive to diet therapy was compared. In a large managed care organization, glyburide was as effective as insulin in achieving glycemic control and similar birth weights in women with GDM who failed diet therapy.

A randomized controlled trial comparing amoxicillin and azithromycin for the treatment of Chlamydia trachomatis in pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The antibiotics amoxicillin and azithromycin are both equally effective in treating chlamydia infections in pregnant women. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease and it can cause premature rupture of membranes, premature birth, fetal conjunctivitis, and fetal pneumonia.

Preconception care in managed care: The translating research into action for diabetes study

Article Abstract:

The study examines the rates of preconception counseling in managed care for women with diabetes and associated patient and physician characteristics. Preconception counseling rates for diabetic women are low and associated with younger age and lower body mass index.
