Competitive styles in men and women

Article Abstract:

Competition can be a healthy and productive instinct but it can also be destructive and dysfunctional. Goal-oriented competition is generally considered acceptable, even admirable by both men and women, while personal competition is viewed more negatively. Men and women compete in different ways, and since nursing is predominantly female while physicians are predominantly male, the interactions should be understood. Women, when they compete with each other, tend to be more person-directed.
