Pain killer

Article Abstract:

A nurse outlines the self-help programme she set up for people in chronic pain. She felt there was a need for this because they do not receive much support from the health service and can often feel isolated and depressed. She first assesses the patients and discusses the pain they are feeling. This is valuable because they feel they are being taken seriously. Coping strategies are built up to identify what causes pain and ways of dealing with it. Patients also are given information about the effects of their medication. The programme lasts for six weeks.
