Confronting depression and suicide in physicians: a consensus statement

Article Abstract:

A panel of 15 experts on depression, suicide, and the health of doctors believes that the medical profession must remove all institutional barriers that prevent doctors from seeking help and treatment when they are depressed and suicidal. Many doctors with depression are discriminated against and may lose their license, hospital privileges, and opportunities for professional advancement. The expert panel was assembled by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
