Consensus and controversy in clinical research ethics

Article Abstract:

Consensus and controversy in clinical research ethics are discussed focusing on substantive, rather than procedural concerns. The state of research ethics reflects consensus on many issues but substantive controversies remains about the foundations of the consensus system and the need to supplement it with community involvement, rules for special populations and rules for special types of research, which involves both conceptual and empirical components.

Disclosing individual results of clinical research: Implications of respect for participants

Article Abstract:

Controversy exists about the responsibility of investigators to communicate the results of research to study participants. It is indicated that when research aggregate results of research correlate with aspects of the health and well-being of participants, disclosing individual results has the potential to significantly affect the lives of participants.
