Consumer-driven health care: lessons from Switzerland

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to compare the characteristics of the Swiss and theoretical consumer-driven health care (CDHC) systems and also to analyze the their effect on its successes and missed opportunities. Compared to the US's employer-based health care system Switzerland' CDHC system was found to achieve universal insurance and high quality of care at significantly lower costs and without the constrained resources that can characterize government-controlled systems.
