Article Abstract:

Ward sisters should control the entire ward budget for effective provision of patient care. Resource management initiatives provide information for decision making. A database indicating a patient's call on resources enables accurate assessment of costs and nursing care. Sisters are able to match staff provision with patients' needs through flexible rotas and ensure that quality of care is high.
