Cordocentesis and fetuses that are small for gestational age

Article Abstract:

Cordocentesis may be an effective method for monitoring a fetus that is small for its gestational age in utero. Cordocentesis involves ultrasound-guided removal of a small sample of blood from the umbilical cord using needle aspiration. Analysis of the sample of blood can determine whether the fetus is suffering from a chromosomal abnormality or is developing properly. Other techniques used to monitor the development of a fetus in utero include ultrasound imaging and doppler ultrasonography. Fetal growth retardation should be evaluated to determine its cause and its degree of severity. A research study found that blood sampling may be an effective method for genetic evaluation of fetuses suffering from fetal growth retardation. Measurement of the levels of oxygen or other blood gases may not provide any useful information about the health of a fetus that is small for its gestational age.

Dewatering methods for liquid manures

Article Abstract:

Dairy farmers who haul manure 10 miles or more to the appropriate land for spreading would substantially enhance their efforts if they could reduce the amount of water in the manure being transported. This idea was explored by a group of farmers in Tuscarawas County, OH, who devised a manure de-watering method using proven municipal wastewater separation technology with the aid of the Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District, which in turn was aided in this effort by a $200,000 grant from the Ohio EPA.
