Assessment design issues for evaluating critical thinking in nursing

Article Abstract:

Portfolio evaluation is a good technique for evaluating nursing students' critical thinking abilities. A portfolio can provide a much more complete picture of the student's critical thinking abilities as well as document progress. However, care must be taken to ensure that the assessor's evaluations are valid and reproducible between assessors. Care must also be taken in determining the contents of the portfolio so that it truly reflects the student's critical thinking abilities.

Health promotion: theoretical perspectives and clinical applications

Article Abstract:

Clinicians promoting health care in managed-care environments should develop interventions to help patients increase the benefits of change and decrease their barriers to change. Public health policies such as a reduction in insurance rates can also promote behavioral changes. Nurses should also consider setting goals with patients as a way to promote intended health behaviors.
