Cultural competence and the culture of medicine

Article Abstract:

The concept of cultural competence is analyzed and Americans are advised to apply this concept to the wide-ranging areas, which the culture of medicine encompasses. The need for cognitive and attitudinal training of the medical students, at the college level itself, raising them above narrow provincialism, and teaching them the ethical constituents of health and illness to make them culturally competent is highlighted.
