First and foremost, we are physicians

Article Abstract:

New American Medical Assn (AMA) president Lonnie R. Bristow takes office at a time when major challenges threaten the profession's solidarity, but he indicated his intention to directly confront those challenges. In his inaugural address, he reminded doctors that they must place their patients' and the profession's interests above their own. He also called for an AMA policy commitment to stronger doctor-patient relationships.

Decision gives doctors new recourse on HMO firings

Article Abstract:

The New Hampshire Supreme Court granted legal recourse to a physician terminated without cause by Healthsource New Hampshire Inc., the state's largest health maintenance organization. The court ruled that Dr. Paul J. Harper could not be legally terminated for failing to comply with "gag rules" implemented by the HMO. The ruling extends public policy concerns regarding doctor-patient relationships.
