VEGF-D promotes the metastatic spread of tumor cells via the lymphatics

Article Abstract:

Lymphatics establish themselves in solid tumors, and the endothelial growth factor VEGF-D probably helps determine the route of metastatic spread. VEGF-D has been seen to induce lymphatic formation within tumors.

Inhibition of lymphangiogenesis with resulting lymphedema in transgenic mice expressing soluble VEGF receptor-3

Article Abstract:

Transgenic mice have seen to develop a lymphedema-like phenotype that produces swelled feet, edema, and dermal fibrosis. However, although initially lacking lymphatic vessels, they have shown regeneration of lymphatic vasculature, suggesting lymphatic regeneration may be possible for humans.

Defective valves and abnormal mural cell recruitment underlie lymphatic vascular failure in lymphedema distichiasis

Article Abstract:

The Foxc2 mice show abnormal lymphatic vascular patterning, increased pericyte investment of lymphatic vessels, agencies of valves and lymphatic dysfunction are reported. It is also indicated that an abnormal interaction between the lymphatic endothelial cells and pericytes and valve defects, underlie pathogenesis of lymphedema-distichiasis.
