Dengue fever: World travelers beware

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization estimates that 50 million cases of dengue infection occur annually as the dengue virus is constantly present (endemic) in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa, North and South America, the islands of the Caribbean and the Eastern Mediterranean. Hence travelers are advised to prevent a first exposure to dengue-infected countries in order to avoid a subsequent dengue infection that could result in dengue hemorrhagic fever.
