Developing a supportive role

Psychological support may be required by patient or carers at any time throughout the illness. Problems range from anxiety to loss of brain function. The family way

Article Abstract:

The Family Care Centre was purpose-built as part of the Mildmay Mission Hospice in London, England, for the care of families infected with AIDS or HIV. The centre is unique in Europe for simultaneously focusing on the needs of both children and their parents. Health-care workers must overcome problematic areas of care and their own prejudices in order to provide the patients with the appropriate level of care. Communication is vital in care provision, with staff needing to establish a trusting relationship.
