Developing integrated paediatric continence services

Article Abstract:

The Paediatric Continence Forum is a coalition of specialty clinicians, nurses and industry representatives and it came together through a mutual concern about the fragmented and under resourced nature of NHS services for children with bladder and bowel problems and aims to highlight the need for dedicated services for these problems and to campaign to have continence. The priority of the Forum is to raise the profile of continence problems particularly at primary care level and it plans to continue the political pressure and to contribute to the development of the care pathway and the planned implementation pack.

Campaigns for continence

Article Abstract:

'Water is Cool in School' and 'Bog Standard' are two national campaigns set up by the national charity Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence (ERIC) for better provision of drinking water in schools and clean, private and well equipped toilets. They were prompted by concerns from school nurses that inadequate fluid intake and sub-standard toilets were having a negative effect on childhood continence problems, including urinary infections and constipation.
