Development of a humanized monoclonal antibody with therapeutic potential against West Nile virus

Article Abstract:

The individual contact residues of 14 newly generated monoclonal antibodies are defined against domain III of the West Nile virus (WNV) E protein using random mutagenesis and yeast surface display. It is found that in postexposure therapeutic trials in mice, a single dose of humanized E16 protected mice against WNV-induced mortality, and may therefore be a viable treatment option against WNV infection in humans.

Inhaled CO: deadly gas or novel therapeutic?

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the novel use of poisonous gas carbon monoxide as an inhalation therapy to reduce the effects of acute lung injuries. Topics include brain metabolism of CO, the biological aspects of heme oxygenase, and the potential benefits of the upregulation of HO-1, as a protector of the lungs and associated tissues against oxidative stress.

Therapeutic effects of lysophosphatidylcholine in experimental sepsis

Article Abstract:

Studies reveal that administration of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), an endogenous lysopholipid, protected mice against lethality after cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) or intraperitoneal injection of Escherichia coli. LPC is used in the prevention and treatment of sepsis and infections.
