Setting up a fast-track insulin start clinic for type 2 diabetes

Article Abstract:

A fast-track service is set up at the diabetes center at Leicester General Hospital to enable general practitioners and practice nurses to refer to a nurse-led service to treat type 2 diabetes. The main objective of the fast-track nurse-led diabetes clinic is to avoid waiting lists and prevent the delay that is often associated with starting insulin therapy and it is made possible by the reduction in follow-up and the faster discharge to the primary care team.
