Dietary and lifestyle factors affecting plasma vitamin D levels in Asian children living in England

Article Abstract:

There are a number of different factors determining the aetiology of vitamin D deficiency among Asian children living in the UK. Different predisposing factors are seen among Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi children. It is likely that factors including low compliance with recommended vitamin supplements, poor vitamin D status of the mother and inadequate exposure to sunlight all play a role in the fact that vitamin D levels are lower in Pakistani children than in Indian and Bangladeshi children.

Micronutrients and HIV infection: a review

Article Abstract:

The destructive impact of HIV infection on micronutrient level illustrates the possible influence of micronutrient deficiencies on progression and transmission of HIV. Previous investigations have shown that vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, and E, niacin, and selenium have interesting roles. Nevertheless, the function of some micronutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin A and other antioxidants are complicated and there may be negative effects of high intakes.
