Disparities in oral and pharyngeal cancer incidence, morality and survival among black and white Americans

Article Abstract:

National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program collects incidence, mortality and five-year relative survival rates, during period spanning 1975 through 2002. Current statistics and long-term trends, for oral and pharyngeal cancer (OPC) incidence, mortality and survival among U.S. blacks and whites, are presented. Although both incidence and mortality rates declined, disparities with regard to OPC mortality persists. Dentists can play a vital role in further reducing OPC incidence and mortality.

A modified hemostat for endodontic instruments

Article Abstract:

A dentist promotes the use of a curved Kelly hemostat that is modified to securely grasp the short handles of the endodontic instruments in order to over come the problems of the finger grasp of the short-handled files and reamers interference with a direct or mirror view of the pulp chamber and canal orifices. The modified hemostat causes less obstruction, which allows for better direct views or mirror replacements.
