Diverse compounds mimic Alzheimer disease - causing mutations by augmenting Abeta42 production

Article Abstract:

A number of compounds that raise Abeta42, which is linked to the development of Alzheimer disease, are identified. Some of the more potent Abeta42-raising agents identified are fenofibrate, an antilipidemic agent, and celecoxib, a COX-2-selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Anti-cancer activity of targeted pro-apoptotic peptides

Article Abstract:

Researchers have developed a pro-apoptotic peptide that targets new blood vessels produced by tumors and destroys them by disrupting mitochondrial membranes. The peptide is non-toxic outside of cells but induces cell death when internalized.

A second cytotoxic proteolytic peptide derived from amyloid beta-protein precursor

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe a peptide unrelated to beta amyloid that is produced from amyloid beta-protein precursor. It is produced by caspases and induces neuronal cell death.
