Does prevention save money? Does it matter?

Article Abstract:

University of Washington professor of health services Frederick Connell and Group Health Cooperative physician Jane Huntington conducted a study which shows that minor public health cost savings are associated with prenatal care for low income women. The study, which was published in the Nov 10, 1994, 'New England Journal of Medicine,' suggests that the value of preventative medicine lies in its long-term worth, rather than in cost-savings, according to Connell. Unfortunately, preventative care is almost always evaluated according to its ability to save money.
