Does the metabolic syndrome really exist?: Diabetes and heart disease groups spar over issue

Article Abstract:

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) released a statement, based on a literature review that the metabolic syndrome was imprecisely defined with lack of certainty regarding its pathogenesis. The statement advises physicians to avoid labeling patients with the term metabolic syndrome, as this might create the impression that the metabolic syndrome denotes a greater risk than its components.
