Don't let summer heat catch you off base

Article Abstract:

The dangers posed by heat stress to workers in factories, foundries and otherplaces where people work indoors are cited. Symptoms of a heat illness range from rashes, dizziness and confusion to fainting, unusually high body temperatures and even death. A three-pronged approach employed by companies to miunimize heat stress is discussed. These are employee training in hot-work-environment risks, the use of administrative controls to tackle short-term seasonal problems and engineering controls to deal with year-round risks.

How to reduce vibration: engineering controls and redesigned tools help prevent injuries

Article Abstract:

About 8 million Americans work with tools that vibrate which could cause physical debilitation and lost productivity. Hand-arm vibration syndrome can lead to numbness, pain and loss of finger dexterity while whole-body vibration often leads to lower-back disorders. Companies are urged to provide their workers with ergonomically designed tools and implement engineering controls to protect them from the hazardous effects of vibration.
