Article Abstract:

Rules for operating forklift trucks include driving at speeds sensible for particular factory conditions, reporting any accident immediately and not adding extra weights. The method of stacking should be suited to the type of goods and when unloading, the truck should be in the right position. A typical hydraulic system is described.

The HSC's draft regulations on manual handling aim to prevent injuries to the back which are costly to industry, and proposals include avoidance of handling hazardous material manually as far as possible. Draft regulations on use of equipment will focuse on stability, machinery guards and controls.
