Effectiveness and Cost-Benefit of Influenza Vaccination of Healthy Working Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Article Abstract:

It is not cost-effective to vaccinate people under the age of 65 against influenza, according to a study of over 2,000 healthy adults between 18 and 64 years old. Although the vaccine reduced the incidence of influenza, the net societal cost was $11 per person compared with no vaccination.

Influenza-associated deaths among children in the United States, 2003-2004

Article Abstract:

Case reports, medical records and autopsy reports during the 2003-2004 influenza season were analyzed to examine the deaths associated with laboratory-confirmed influenza in a US resident younger than 18 years of age. Substantial number of influenza-associated deaths occurred among the US children, which suggested that high priority should be given to improvements in influenza-vaccine coverage and improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of influenza.
