Fat and cholesterol regulator identified

Article Abstract:

Researchers have identified a protein subunit ARC105 as an important regulator of fat and cholesterol production, by which it enables sterol regulatory element binding proteins (SREBPs) to activate genes involved in cholesterol and lipid biosynthesis. These findings may help scientists to develop strategies to prevent and treat high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Nanotech Group's "bio-barcode" test a promising diagnostic, research tool

Article Abstract:

The head of The Northwestern University Institute for nanotechnology, in Evanston along with his colleagues innovated nanotech detection tool, the bio-barcode assay for diagnostic tests and clinical research. It is indicated that this tool works for DNA, RNA, proteins, and certain small molecules and metal ions, and can overtake polymerase chain reaction(PCR), which is limited to DNA.
