Effects of stress on children examined

Article Abstract:

Stress affects brain regions that are responsible for complex cognitive functions such as regulation of emotion and resistance to distraction, and that chronic stress can result in atrophy of some neurons and memory impairment. Individuals cope with stress by either tackling the source of stress or by using strategies to deal with situations that cannot be controlled and coping plays a role in the psychological adjustment of youngsters exposed to stress and that different coping strategies can affect distress and psychopathology.

New clues to HDL's benefits revealed

Article Abstract:

The examination of the cardioprotective properties of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) resulted in development of new indicators of cardiovascular risk and better treatment for heart-related conditions. The investigators found that HDL contains complement regulatory proteins, which are important for innate immunity and might also help to limit injury to cardiac cells.

Not all placebos are equal

Article Abstract:

A study conducted by scientists discovered that not all placebos are equivalent in their effects and vary in specific clinical environment. The results concluded that placebo effects persist over time and seem to be malleable, depending on the behaviors embedded in medical rituals.
