Attitudes to patient's triaged in A&E

Article Abstract:

Of a total of 500 cases triaged in accident and emergency (A&E) at King's College Hospital, London, 276 patients were 'true A&E', 224 were classified as 'primary care', and 85 were unclear. The study revealed that nurses felt less motivation to help, more irritation, and less sympathy to those cases classified as primary care, and also those who had experienced their condition for over 24 hours.

Article Abstract:

Some patients may be seeking treatment inappropriately in hospital accident and emergency (A&E) units rather than General Practitioner (GP) surgeries. Many consider GPs unable to deliver emergency care. Patients' perceptions of their illness may influence choice of facility. The incorporation of GP facilities into A&E departments may be an appropriate response to patient demand.
