Elevation of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor in the placenta and blood in preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

A study on 22 normal pregnancy women and 22 pregnant women with preeclampsia, conducted to investigate the level of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in the blood and placenta. It revealed an elevation in the GM-CSF in the placenta due to immunologic abnormalities, thus contributing to the etiology of preeclampsia.

Altered monocyte function in experimental preeclampsia in the rat

Article Abstract:

The functional activity of monocytes in experimental preeclampsia induced by low-dose endotoxin infusion is evaluated. Results indicate that monocyctes are persistently activated in experimental preeclampsia because decreased endotoxin-induced tumor necrosis factor (TNF)alpha production is a feature of activated monocycles.

Soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (sFlt-1) is increased throughout gestation in patients who have preeclampsia develop

Article Abstract:

The prospectively circulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its soluble receptor, Flt-1, was analyzed. Results indicate an association between elevated sFlt-1 concentrations and the onset of preeclampsia suggesting that sFlt-1is linked with disease pathogenesis.
