End-of-Life Care in Medical Textbooks

Article Abstract:

Publishers of medical textbooks should include some information about end-of-life care. Researchers analyzed four commonly used medical textbooks for their coverage of end-of-life care for 12 illnesses that often cause death: Harrison's Textbook of Medicine, The Merck Manual, Scientific American Medicine, and The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics. Most of the books only mentioned treatments for the underlying disease but provided no helpful information on terminal care.

Medical films win 'Freddies' in international contest

Article Abstract:

The International Health and Medical Film Competition was held in Nov 1996. There were 45 'Freddie' awards given from out of 600 entries. The American Medical Assn presented the awards for the first time. The film competition aims to utilize visual communication to promote better health. High quality health information should also be available to consumers and medical professionals.
