Health care reform in the OECD countries

Article Abstract:

The Working Party on Social Policy of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has prepared two books on health care reform. 'The Reform of Health Care Systems: A Comparative Analysis of Seven OECD Countries' by Jeremey Hurst and 'The Reform of Health Care Systems: A Review of Seventeen OECD Countries' by Brian Able-Smith discuss health care financing and the delivery subsystems of 24 OECD member countries and their effect on the profitability of the economic system.

Article Abstract:

The president of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons believes physicians must play a more active role in the changes sweeping through the US health care system. Many physicians did not want to get involved in the business of medicine. However, there were about 600 managed care organization in the US in 1998. Since managed care has a direct impact on patients, physicians must remain actively involved. An MBA degree might help physicians understand the business side of medicine.

Prostheses and orthoses in developing countries

Article Abstract:

Getting prostheses and supporting devices to the handicapped in developing countries must be looked at in a new way. Importing is expensive so these devices are not usually a nation's priority. Locally made articles, linked to community groups would be less expensive and more accessible.
