Comment on Partha Dasgupta's reply: an enquiry into well-being and destitution

Article Abstract:

The 'central model' proposed by Partha Dasgupta in his book 'An Enquiry into Well-being and Destitution' is inaccurate in its depiction of the lives of poor people, indicating its inapplicability to address the nutritional needs of the poor. The equations proposed for computing the energy expended per unit of each type of work and play are not suitable to conditions of energy stress.

Reply to Michael Lipton: An enquiry into well-being and destitution

Article Abstract:

Michael Lipton's review of 'An Enquiry into Well-being and Destitution' is inaccurate, as he has misinterpreted the nature of the 'central model,' which is actually a class of models linking work capacity to nutritional status. Work performance is considered in terms of VO2 max, and not in terms of VO2 max/kg, as implied.
