Epidemiology of Trichomonas vaginalis: a prospective study in China

Article Abstract:

Women who have several sex partners and who smoke and drink may have an increased risk for Trichomonas vaginalis infection. T. vaginalis is a common sexually transmitted disease worldwide. Researchers in China tested 16,797 women for T. vaginalis in conjunction with a cervical cancer screening program. They made 1,489 new diagnoses of T. vaginalis infection. Women had a higher risk for T. vaginalis infection if they had several sex partners, more induced abortions, smoked, drank alcohol, and had a lower socioeconomic status. Older women and those with cervical atrophy were less likely to be infected.

Disclosure of HIV Status to Sexual Partners: Predictors and Temporal Patterns

Article Abstract:

Many HIV patients do not disclose their HIV status to their sexual partners. In a study of 147 HIV-positive people, 76% reported disclosing their HIV status to their last sex partner at the beginning of the study. Those who were in a monogamous relationship were most likely to disclose their status. Twenty-two percent of those who disclosed at the beginning of the study reported nondisclosure during follow-up. About one-fourth said they did not always use a condom even if they did not disclose their status to their partner.
