Epithelial secretion of C3 promotes colonization of the upper urinary tract by Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli may use complement component C3 as a host to invade the renal epithelium, with local complement production sufficient for this method. Renal epithelial cells have been seen to internalize fewer bacteria when C3 is not present, and upregulation of C3 enhances bacterial internalization.

Fc-dependent depletion of activated T cells occurs through CD40L-specific antibody rather than costimulation blockade

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that CD40L antibodies deplete the activated T cells, instead of exerting immune modulation via costimulation blockade as currently understood. Data suggest that new treatments for immune disorders can be designed based on selective targeting of activated T cells.

Cyclic AMP-regulated exocytosis of Escherichia coli from infected bladder epithelial cells

Article Abstract:

This study conducted on uropathogenic Escherichia coli infected mice, shows that when they were administered with a cyclic AMP drug, the number of intracellular Escherichia coli decreased.
