Epoetin alfa for treatment of anemia in HIV-infected patients: past, present, and future

Article Abstract:

Epoetin alfa plays an important role in the management of HIV-infected patients, inspite of the availability of highly active antiretroviral therapy and the resulting reduction in severe anemia associated with the HIV infection. It is observed that epoetin alfa may have therapeutic potential beyond its ability to stimulate erythropoieses due to its neuroprotective and antiapoptotic properties.

Thymic volume predicts CD4 T-cell decline in HIV-infected adults under prolonged treatment interruption

Article Abstract:

The predictive capacity of thymic volume in CD4 T-cell loss after treatment interruption in HIV-infected patients with high nadir CD4 count is analyzed. The thymic volume for the first time predicts CD4 T-cell loss in patients with nadir CD4 count greater than or equal to 250 cells/muL under treatment interruption.
