Ethicists bemoan shortened clinical trial approval time

Article Abstract:

Officials at Health Canada propose shortening the review of research grant applications from 60 days to 30 days and even to 48 hours. However, some research ethics boards that would review the applications are for-profit institutions. This leads critics to wonder if grant approvals can be bought.

Record gift adds another US neuroscience center

Article Abstract:

Publisher Patrick McGovern has endowed $350 million to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create the McGovern Institute for Brain Research. The center will be the research home for 16 scientists and a staff of 300 to 400.

NIH proceeds with overhaul of grant system

Some AIDS researchers fear that changes in how the NIH reviews grant applications could have a negative impact on AIDS research. The agency proposes grouping study sections by scientific discipline rather than by disease.
