Evaluation of new treatments in radiation oncology: Are they better than standard treatments?

Article Abstract:

The success of innovative treatments by assessing preferences between experimental and standard treatments according to original investors' conclusions, determining the proportion of randomized control trials (RCTs) that achieved primary outcomes' statistical significance, and performing meta-analysis to examine if the summary point estimate favored innovative vs standard treatments is determined. Rationale for RCTs is well preserved and that successful interventions can only be identified after an RCT is completed.

An anniversary for cancer chemotherapy

Article Abstract:

The year 2006 has marked the 60th anniversary of the first report of a trial of cancer chemotherapy, an event that is closely related to the development of chemical poisons for use in warfare. Clinical investigators and physicians were able to derive some good for the mankind from the agony and pain resulting from chemical agents created primarily to destroy humans and this might lead to effective cures for neoplastic disease.

Somatic acquisition and signaling of TGFBR1*6A in cancer

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether TGFBR1*6A, a common polymorphism of the type 1 transforming growth factor beta receptor (TGFBR1), is somatically acquired by primary tumors and metastases during cancer development. Results indicated that TGFBR1*6A is acquired in 29.5% of liver metastases from colorectal cancer and might bestow cancer cells with a growth advantage in the presence of TGF-beta.
